Bought these to use on my Fatbike flats and love them. Sole is stiff enough that not flexing around the pedal. Once I get "good enough" then clips will be in order. Best shoes at an amazing price.

  2. Surprisingly Comfortable

Posted by drwittcop on Mar 16th 2015

I haven't ridden with these when it was crazy cold. Rode in the temps in the low to mid-30s F. Had no issues with the feet getting co!d. Will need some truely cold weather to comment on how they do is some serious cold.

The one thing that I did notice is that they are really comfortable. I have normal width feet, and after reading other reviews I went with the wides. They are a perfect fit when on worn with thicker wigwam wool hiking socks.

Thus far these have been awesome. I would definitely recommend.

  3. i like wide shoes and I cannot lie

Posted by Frank on Jan 7th 2015

My feet tend to get pretty cold, I have poor circulation in my feet. So the fact that these shoes with a thick pair of wool socks, and liner (cycling) socks underneath, keeps my feet comfortable down to about 10F is pretty good. Below that I use toe warmers, and I will probably get some thick booties to cover up for sub-zero.
Overall the shoe is much improved over the MXZ301 version I had previously. "lacing" system is secure, the sole is stiff and efficient, but pretty easy to walk in (you forget you're wearing cycling shoes sometimes). tread is grippy and well designed... but a shoe like this should come with toe spikes, I shouldn't have to spend extra for them.
I have a very wide toe box (duck feet), and wear 42.5-43 in other shoe brands. Getting my forefoot to feel comfortable in a shoe and letting my toes spread out is the biggest challenge in a shoe fit for me. This is especially critical for a winter shoe to allow blood circulation. The size 44 works pretty well for me, gives my toes enough room while wearing thick wool socks. I have a special insole that helps take up volume in the rear of the shoe, and I really have to crank down Boa system and ankle strap to make it secure on the rear of my foot, but it does work.
I hear the Wolvhammer's are warmer, less stiff, and not as wide. Pick your poison.

  4. Sizing

Posted by Mark on Dec 9th 2014

So I just bought a pair of 303's, 44 wides. I wear a 43.5 specialized road shoe. I followed the directions for sizing on the Lake web sight. Trace foot with sock on and measure it. Came up with 43.5 wide per the measurements. Bought 44's because they don't come in 1/2 sizes. They fit perfect and are very comfortable. Will submit another review after some riding in cold weather, but its easy to see they are way better than anything I have tried so far.
