Lake MX331-X Wide Men's Cross Bike Shoes

With the MX331-X, Lake wanted to create a shoe that was designed around the unique requirements of cyclocross racers. The upper consists of Klite Kangaroo leather and mesh, offering both excellent durability and breathability for riding deftly over rough terrain, while the CFC Race Last provides you with an ergonomic fit, helping to give you a more efficient up-stroke, improving race performance. The heel counter is composed of Lake's Internal Thermaform carbon fiber, which ensures you a perfect fit in the heel to further enhance performance, and Lake's Outlast SmartFabric technology is utilized in the heel and tongue liner to help keep your feet even cooler. The BOA lacing closure provides a secure fit that allows for quick and precise adjustments during the race. The stiffness of the Lake Race Carbon Fiber outsole provides excellent power transfer to give you the best possible performance. A rubber cleat pocket offers great traction during hike-a-bike sections, and the addition of both toe and heel spikes allows for even more stability, making this the perfect shoe for cyclocross racers.

* If using Crankbrothers pedals, Lake requires that cleats are installed with the shim provided by Crankbrothers, or the Crankbrothers Shoe Shields. Failure to do so will void warranties related to sole damage.

  1. excellent durability???

I was so very excited to get my hands on these shoes. I have studied long and hard and they checked all the boxes i was looking for in a cyclocross shoe, carbon sole, leather upper, fun and stylish, available in a wide fit, however, now that i have been out a handful of times in them I find myself very disappointed. First things first, they look great, the orange leather and black mesh look very nice together and they are so very unique looking, they absolutely catch the eye and I have already received more than a few nods. They are light but not quite as light as I was expecting, if you aren't really in the muck you can remove both the toe and heal cleats and save a couple of grams.
They fit well, however, I would say they run about a half size smaller than the Lake measurement chart suggests. I was meticulous with my measurements and still had to return them to move up a half size. after that adjustment I would say they fit perfectly.
The "durability" is a HUGE issue. After just one ride on my local cross course the leather around the toe cup was chipped and destroyed, I did nothing spectacular on the bike two little run ups, one with some loose stones. and when I got home to take them off I was shocked . . . and sad, they looked so nice out of the box and after just an hour on the bike they are really chewed up. I would expect so much more from a shoe of this quality and this price point.
I am satisfied with the fit, the carbon is very stiff, but it is ashamed that I will start this season of cross in a pair of "new" shoes that look like I have ridden them for 5 years. I would suggest you save your money and get a shoe that will actually last on a cross course.
